Hope & The Willows: Our Past, Present, & Future
Hope & The Willows: Our Past, Present, & Future
The Willows school-wide theme for the 2024/2025 school year is Hope. Our school credo: all things are possible is imbued with hope. Many definitions of hope–expectation, aspiration, dream–will be integrated into curriculum as well as our school culture.
Desmond Tutu, South African activist, stated, “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” We will encourage our students to embrace the optimism of hope and to believe in themselves knowing that their hopes and dreams can be achieved through hard work and conviction. In celebration of our 30th anniversary, we are honoring our past, present, and future.
In March of 1994, a group of parents and educators, inspired by Lisa Rosenstein’s educational vision of an innovative and progressive approach to learning came together to create The Willows Community School. They hoped to establish an engaging educational community that academically challenged, promoted creativity, and instilled character. That original inspired, intellectual, and imaginative spirit has continued to grow over the last 30 years.
The inherent nature of hope is looking ahead to the future, with dreams and aspirations leading the way. Hope fills in the gaps when the path is unclear. It offers confidence when circumstances seem bleak. It instills a sense of comfort knowing that whatever life throws our way, we can withstand its pressures. As educators, preparing students for their future is our essential task. Here at The Willows, Hope will continue to be a core trait of our community and curriculum, encouraging positivity and guiding each step of our work.
As we reflect on our history and celebrate our 30th anniversary as a school, we will champion hope in all its forms; from overcoming first day jitters to dreaming big. Since our doors opened, hope has led the way, with an optimistic spirit and can-do attitude permeating our culture.
