Performing Arts
The performing arts are an integral part of The Willows educational program with developmentally appropriate projects and activities integrated into curriculum, as well as weekly scheduled music periods with our music, dance, and drama specialists. The goals of The Willows music and performing arts programs are for students to develop skills, explore formal and expressive aspects of the arts, experience musical and dramatic connections to life, history, and world cultures, develop an appreciation for music or performance, and to collaborate with others.
"OUR OUTSTANDING PERFORMING ARTS PROGRAM IS NOT IN ADDITION TO BUT FULLY INTEGRATED INTO OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM. FROM DEVELOPMENTAL KINDERGARTEN THROUGH EIGHTH GRADE, OPPORTUNITIES ARE DESIGNED TO DEVELOP CREATIVITY, IGNITE IMAGINATION, INSTILL CONFIDENCE, AND BUILD COOPERATION . . . AND HAVE FUN."~ Lisa Rosenstein, Head of School

Music
The music program for Lower School uses the Orff Schulwerk approach and focuses on singing, playing music, creating music, and understanding music. The students build foundational skills and a love of music through activities, games, and movement. In the Middle School, music is a regular part of the program with a variety of extracurricular and electives offered. Students may also select from a wide range of classes that focus on music history and appreciation, theory and composition, and vocal and instrumental performance. Our choral program includes five choirs that annually receive numerous first place awards at choral competitions.
Drama & Dance
Drama and performance opportunities are carefully integrated into classroom curriculum with the goal of promoting self-expression, confidence, and cooperation. Our program is designed to spark the imagination and recognize each child’s creative voice. Three Middle School theater productions are presented each year as part of the curriculum in our state-of-the-art black box theater or larger gymnasium stage.
