Reading Specialist Maryanne Wolf, Director, UCLA Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners, and Social Justice to Speak at The Willows

The talk will be followed by a Book Signing. Ms. Wolf's books include Reader, Come Home: The Reading Brain in a Digital World, Proust and the Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain, Tales of Literacy for the 21st Century, and Dyslexia, Fluency and the Brain.

Marianne Wolf, Ed.D. is the Visiting Professor and Director of the Center for Dyslexia, Diverse Learners, and Social Justice at UCLA and the former John DiBiaggio Professor of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University. She is Chapman University’s Presidential Fellow ( 2018-2020) and past Fellow (2014-2015) and Research Affiliate (2016-2017) at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. She completed her doctorate at Harvard University in the Department of Human Development and Psychology in the Graduate School of Education, where she began her work in cognitive neuroscience and psycholinguistics on the reading brain, language, and dyslexia. She has undergraduate and Master's degrees in English literature from St.l Mary's College, Notre Dame, and Northwestern University. She is external advisor to the International Monetary Fund, Canadian Children’s Literacy Foundation, and other Boards, and a frequent speaker about global literacy at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. The author of 160+ scientific articles, she has designed the RAVE-O reading intervention for children with dyslexia across all languages. With Martha Denckla, she co-authored the RAN/RAS naming speed tests. Her numerous awards include the Fulbright Fellowship, the Norman Geschwind and Samuel Awards from the International Dyslexia Association, Distinguished Teacher of the Year awards from the state and national American Psychological Association, and the Alice Ansara and Windward Researcher of the Year awards. She received the Christopher Columbus award for Intellectual Innovation for her work as co-founder of Curious Learning, a global literacy initiative with deployments in Africa, India, Australia, and the rural United States. https://www.maryannewolf.com/
