Community Support

We have a plan in place to support families (ours and the larger community impacted by the fire) and will be sharing that this week. Upon return, our Middle School students will be researching the best ways to serve others, items needed, etc. through local city service organizations, LA County offices, LA Fire and Depts. etc., so we are gathering necessary items efficiently to make an effective contribution to community partners in the Los Angeles area.

Hosting The Village School

Our first community outreach event will be hosting the Village School students, faculty, staff, and parents Thursday, January 16, across our campus. The Village School’s building was totally lost in the Palisades fire, and many families have lost their homes. Each grade will host Village students in their classroom and then participate in a rotation of activities with their corresponding Village grade level. Village is a DK-6th grade school, so our 7th and 8th grade students will serve as leaders for the day setting up activities, assisting with games, and distributing supplies. While Village students are in classes, the Village administration will host a Village parent council meeting in our theater. This will be a meaningful, community driven day.

Hosting Students From Kyonggi School in Korea from Brentwood School Exchange Program

The week of January 13, we will be hosting students in the 4th and 5th grade from Korea. They were scheduled to be in Los Angeles this week and next at Brentwood School which is closed this week. The students attend the Kyonggi School, a K-12 school in Seoul, South Korea. Brentwood hosts them annually. The students speak English and have three teachers with them who will not be in classes unless they are needed. The Assistant Head of the Brentwood Elementary School will also be onsite. The school has created a slide deck about Korea that they will share with our students. Most likely the students will visit other Willows grades as well. This is a wonderful global awareness opportunity for our students to interact with students from another country and culture.
