In March 1994, 25-years ago, a dedicated group of pioneers were told that it was “impossible” to create a new kind of school with a balanced, progressive
educational approach and strong academic roots that instilled character, compassion, and
flexibility by September 1994. With passion, grit, and a fierce determination, they formulated plans, recruited families from a hotel room, and transformed a warehouse space. They founded not only the school of their dreams but also founded The Willows “can-do” spirit!
They were the first Willows community, and together they forged the first ties that still strongly bind us today. The inaugural Willows school-wide theme was The Ties that Bind Us,
and in honor of our 25th Anniversary and in gratitude to our founders, the 2019-2020
school-wide theme is The Ties that Bind Us. Since 1994, our ties have been strong and resilient— uniting all of us through the years. We celebrate our ties to each other, to our unique educational program, to our traditions, to our innovations, and to our phenomenal progress.
The last 25 years has been a personal journey and a triumph for all of our community–
students, Board of Trustees, Board of Governors, faculty staff, parents, grandparents, alumni families, and our Culver City and Los Angeles communities.
Most importantly, we honor all the children whose lives we have enriched and whose dreams we have inspired. We encourage all our students, past and present, to find their passions and voices and to grow as individuals and part of a community. This year, we honor the very first Willows community that created The Willows legacy of learning and the many voices over 25 years that together made... The Willows is a place where great minds, and hearts, grow.
“ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!”
